Update

Thursday 3/28

Thursday will be similar to the past two days with dry weather, high clouds filtering the sunshine, and afternoon high temperatures in the 40s.

With these warmer temperatures, look for firm snow in the morning, and then conditions will soften during the late morning and should become soft and sometimes slushy by afternoon.

Enjoy the warmth and don’t forget to apply sunscreen!

Friday 3/29 – Saturday 3/30

We’re only 24 hours away from the change to cooler air and snowfall, and I am gaining a little more confidence in the details of this system.

Expect snow to begin Friday midday. Showers will continue through Friday afternoon, with the chance for a few bursts of intense snow from small convective cells (like summertime thunderstorms). On Friday night into Saturday morning, one more wave of energy could push across Colorado which may keep the showers going.

I’ll stick with my estimate for 3-6 inches of snow, though amounts could be higher if we do get lucky and see a few of those more intense cells.

The best chance to ski soft snow will be on Friday afternoon and also Saturday’s first chair. The softest snow should be on the groomed runs and on shaded north-facing slopes.

Longer Range

We should see dry weather (or maybe just a few showers) from Saturday through Monday, then a storm will move over Colorado on Wednesday, April 3, plus or minus one day.

The ingredients (moisture, energy) are strong enough to give me some hope of moderate or significant snow totals from this system, but it’s too soon to know if these ingredients will come together in the perfect way that is necessary to actually bring a lot of snow. We’ll see!

Thanks for reading and check back each morning for daily updates!
