Update

On Friday night, despite a weak storm moving over northern Colorado, we did not see any flakes.

On Saturday morning, the skies are mostly clear. For the rest of Saturday, we should see temperatures rise into the mid-to-upper 20s, dry weather for most of the day, and more clouds and maybe a few showers during the late afternoon.

Then a strong storm will bring snow from Saturday night through Monday night with significant accumulations.

On Saturday night and Sunday, snow could fall the entire time with accumulations of 2-5 inches. This means that there should be new snow on Sunday, getting deeper through the day. Temperatures will be warming and winds will be strong, so snow quality will likely be thicker and dense.

On Sunday night and Monday, snow will continue with another 3-6+ inches. This means that Monday morning or midday will likely offer the deepest powder. Temperatures will be cooling, which means that the snow should become fluffier. This is what we want – thick, dense snow first, then light, fluffy snow on top.

Total accumulations between Saturday night and Monday afternoon could be around 6-12 inches. For full transparency, one model shows much higher totals thanks to abundant moisture in the atmosphere. Other models keep the deepest snow just north of the mountain because the energy from the jet stream and a cold front will stall just to the north. I’ll keep the forecast (and our expectations) in the reasonable range for now.

While the most intense snow should end sometime on Monday, we could see some snow continue into Tuesday, so there could be soft snow to enjoy on Tuesday as well.

Looking out through the next week, we will see dry weather from Wednesday, February 19th through Sunday, February 23rd. The next chance for a storm will be around Monday, February 24th.

Thanks for reading and check back each morning for daily updates!
