Flakes on Thursday, storm on Sunday and Monday

Summary

Dry and warmer weather will continue on Wednesday, then we'll see some snowflakes on Thursday with a stronger and colder storm from Sunday into Monday.

Update

On Wednesday morning, temperatures at the base are again about 10-15°F colder than temperatures at the mid and upper mountain, and once again these colder temperatures are allowing crews to make snow near the base.

As a reminder, there is very little terrain open with just five runs available at this time.

On Wednesday, we will see continued dry weather with warm high temperatures that will rise into the 40s.

On Thursday and Thursday night, a weak storm with warm temperatures and a LOT of moisture will push across Colorado, and it appears that there will be enough storm energy to convert some of this moisture into snow. The snow level will be rather high, but still below the base. My expectation is for 1-3 inches of snow, though with a lot of moisture in the air, it's possible that we could exceed these numbers, especially if we see a few more pulses of snow later on Thursday night as temperatures cool and the snow becomes a little fluffier. This snowfall is unlikely to be enough to help the mountain open more terrain, but every flake helps.

Friday and Saturday will swing back to dry weather with a cooler high temperature in the 30s. Then the next storm could bring snow as early as Saturday evening.

The most significant storm of the next 10 days will bring snow from Saturday night to Monday midday. The wide range of snowfall possibilities is slowly narrowing, and it looks likely that we'll see low-to-moderate totals, maybe in the 2-6 inch range. Snow could fall during the day on Sunday and through Monday morning or midday, and temperatures will be cooler than the past week with a high in the 20s on Sunday and a high in the teens on Monday. Maybe, just maybe, the combination of snow from this storm plus the snowmaking early next week will allow the mountain to open more terrain.

In the longer range, Tuesday, November 21 to Thursday, November 23 will be dry and warmer with highs in the 30s. Then the next chance for a storm will likely arrive sometime between Friday, November 24, and Sunday, November 26, and since this storm will track toward Colorado from the north, it'll likely be starved of moisture and my early expectation is for lower-end snow totals.
