More snow coming Friday and through the weekend statewide

Summary

There's lots of powder to enjoy at Idaho's ski areas on Friday after a big powder day yesterday, depending on location, and several days of powder in a row. Snow is predicted at North Idaho resorts today on top of 2-5 inches of snow overnight (Silver Mountain got the most), and more new snow is forecast on Friday-Sunday, with 16 inches expected through Sunday. There's a slight break in the action at Southern Idaho resorts today, and more snow is forecast to arrive on Friday night and Saturday, with 14-21 inches expected at Bogus, Tamarack and Brundage through Sunday.

Short Term Forecast

Enjoy the powder snow over the long MLK holiday weekend! Snow is forecast continually at North Idaho resorts through Sunday, and it's projected to continue to snow into next week. A brief warm up in temperatures is expected to occur on Saturday during the day, with snow until 11 a.m., then a rain/snow mix, then snow again in the afternoon. Be aware of that situation.

The next big storm system coming to Southern Idaho is coming Friday night with 5-9 inches of new snow expected at Bogus Basin and 3-5 inches at Tamarack and Brundage. Get there early Saturday morning, especially at Bogus, as the temperatures are projected to warm up after 11 a.m., and snow levels could rise to 7,500 feet by later in the day. It's unclear how that will play out at Bogus.

Snow levels in Valley County are forecast to stay at 5,000 feet on Saturday, so that is good news for Brundage and Tamarack.

Extended Forecast

A cold front moves in Sunday and that will cool off the temperatures and bring more snow through the MLK holiday and into next week.

Announcements

Brundage Mountain is hosting a Beer & Gear Festival on Jan. 19-20 this weekend.

Deschutes Brewery is bringing its woody wagon to Schweitzer this weekend, Jan. 18-21.
