New snow and breezy in N. Idaho; sunshine and beezy in S. Idaho

Summary

The cold front sweeping across Northern Idaho overnight did not pack as much powder punch as expected so far. 1-2" of new snow fell overnight at Schweitzer, Silver and Lookout, and another 3-5" are expected today. Brundage could get 1" on Thursday. Bogus Basin and Sun Valley will be sunny and breezy. Windy conditions will be the norm statewide with the passage of the frontal system.

Short Term Forecast

A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect at Silver Mountain and Lookout Pass this morning. The brunt of the storm system is expected to pass by mid-day. Windy conditions will prevail, with wind speeds in the teens and gusts to a max of 30 mph. High temperatures Thursday will be in the high 20s to low 30s at the N. Idaho resorts.

It'll be breezy but mostly sunny at Bogus Basin and Sun Valley on Thursday after the warmest day of the week on Wednesday. Much cooler temperatures are forecast on Thursday - 38 degrees at Bogus and 30 in Sun Valley on the top of Bald Mountain.

There's an 80 percent chance of snow at Brundage Mountain before noon on Thursday. Only 1" is expected in terms of accumulation. High temp of 27 degrees. Sunshine is forecast on Friday with a high of 36. A slight chance of snow occurs on Saturday with cooler temperatures, and then another sunny day with a high of 36 is forecast on Sunday to close out the season at Brundage.

Sunshine returns to N. Idaho ski areas on Friday, a weak weather system blows through Saturday with cooler temperatures and light snow, and then sunshine is forecast to finish out the season at Schweitzer on Sunday. Silver and Lookout will operate next weekend for one last hurrah! 

Sunny conditions will prevail at Bogus Basin Friday-Sunday, with a high of 49 Friday, 43 Saturday and 42 Sunday to close out the season.

Looks like mostly sunshine coming next week. 

Announcements

The skiing/riding season is winding down as spring sets in. See planned closing dates at Idaho ski areas below. This is the last week of operation for most resorts still open. Closing dates are subject to change depending on snow conditions.

Spring season pass sales are under way, so check on the best pricing at your ski resort of choice. In addition, before you go, check on the availability of day tickets online. Limited numbers are available. Plan ahead.

Here's a report that aired March 30 from KIVI-TV Channel 6 looking back at this year's ski season with officials from Bogus Basin, Tamarack and Brundage.  

Lookout Pass is operating daily through this weekend. Lookout will close Tuesday-Thursday next week, then reopen for Friday-Sunday, 4/16-18. Closing date is April 18.

Schweitzer Mountain is operating 7 days a week. Purchase tickets online here. Closing date is April 11. 

Silver Mountain is operating daily through this weekend. Day tickets are available. Purchase online here. Silver will be closed next week during the week, and reopen for Saturday-Sunday to close out the season. Closing date is April 18. 

Sun Valley is operating daily. Dollar Mountain is closed. Bald Mountain closes on April 11. 

Brundage Mountain is operating seven days a week from 9 am - 4 pm. Day Tickets are available for online purchase only. Advanced purchase is highly recommended. Closing date is April 11.   

Bogus Basin is open daily, from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Night skiing is closed. Day tickets are available and must be purchased in advance online. Car-pooling is encouraged. Closing date is April 11.  

Tamarack Resort is closed for the season.

Pomerelle Mountain is closed for the season.

Magic Mountain is closed for the season.    

Pebble Creek is closed for the season.     

Soldier Mountain has closed for the season. 

Bald Mountain has closed for the season.  

Kelly Canyon has closed for the season.
