Winter keeps coming! More *pow* mid-week and this weekend

Summary

Partial sunshine will prevail in N. Idaho on Tuesday, while a Low pressure trough off the Pacific Coast will spin clouds and light snow into the rest of Idaho. A series of snow storms and winter-like temps will pummel Central and S. Idaho Wed-Thurs., with deep totals coming to Sun Valley (10-14") and Pomerelle (18-32"), while Bogus, Tam, Brundage and Pebble will get 6-10". More snow this wknd.

Short Term Forecast

Dollar Dayz pond skim event last weekend closed out the season at Dollar Mountain in Sun Valley. Some hilarious footage as always! (photo courtesy Sun Valley).

A deeply stacked Low pressure trough is sliding down the Pacific Coast this week, spinning unstable weather, cold temps and snow into Central and Southern Idaho. A series of storm events beginning Tuesday and continuing through Thursday night will bring deep snow totals as mentioned above.

It's important to note that Pomerelle just got 3 feet of new and Pebble 2 feet of new as of Monday AM, so the snow is stacking up at the resorts in the waning days of the 2022-23 ski season. Pomerelle is closed on Tuesday - FYI - probably to dig out from all the new snow!

Schweitzer Mountain is enjoying nice sunshine, warmer temps in the mid-30s and closer to seasonal spring skiing conditions Tuesday-Thursday. Silver and Lookout will have partial sunshine on Tuesday and then clouds and potential for light snow through Friday.

This guy must be a Salmon River guide ... he brought a paddle and hit the pond fast and skimmed across in style, barely even getting wet!  (photo courtesy Sun Valley)

After the Wed-Thurs storm events dump snow across Central and Southern Idaho, another storm system will approach Friday PM-Sunday with more significant snow throughout the weekend. So it looks like the Idaho State Pond Skimming Championships at Tamarack will be a snowy affair with colder, winter-like temperatures. Looks like another foot of snow may fall with the storm system this weekend, on top of the fluff that falls mid-week.

N. Idaho ski areas should get in on some fresh *pow* with the storm systems this weekend.

More Low pressure systems will move across Idaho this weekend and into next week, bringing unstable weather.

Extended Forecast

By next Tuesday, there may be a break in the action and the possibility of some sunshine. To be honest, I'm not seeing really any warmer weather or spring-like conditions until mid-April when there appears to be a High Pressure ridge beginning to build off the Pacific Coast. By then, most Idaho ski areas will be closed or confined to weekends only. See planned closing dates below.
