Light snow Sun-Mon, warmer and sunny by next wknd!

Summary

The March major powder parade finished with a big bang of 1-2 feet of new snow, leading into a weekend of fun activities at Idaho's ski areas. The season is winding down in places, while some resorts announced extra bonus weekends in April due to record amounts of deep snow. More snow is forecast in the first half of this week, and then it'll warm up rapidly Friday-Sunday. Yay!

Short Term Forecast

This Brundage all-women's team rocked the "Brewlympic Games" on Saturday. (photo courtesy Brundage Mountain Resort). Brundage had 10" of new to start out the ski/ride day.

Noteworthy snow totals over the last 72 hours:

  • Schweitzer - 10" in the last 24 hours, 25" in the last 48 hours.

  • Pebble Creek - 2" in the last 24 hours, 25" in the last 48 hours
  • Brundage - 6" in the last 24 hours, 10" in the last 48 hours, 13" in the last 72 hours, 17" in the last week

Yeah, we've been smothered in snow statewide with that series of Low pressure troughs and cold fronts passing through day after day after day. We're still in an unstable weather pattern starting out the next week with a Low trough exiting Idaho and another one coming through early this week.

Generally light amounts of snow are forecast statewide with 1-3" expected Sunday, 1-3" Sunday night, 2-4" Monday, 1-3" Monday night, etc. Pomerelle and Pebble will get much larger totals daily (6-10") with another 1-2 feet of new snow forecast through Wednesday. Pom is closed until Friday, April 7, when it will reopen with deep *pow* ready to be shredded. Pebble is closed for the season after this weekend unless they reopen for bonus weekends. Watch their Facebook page and web site for more information.

Bogus Basin got absolutely smothered in snow in the last week, with more than 50" of new snow, setting a record on the snotel site near the ski area summit. Bogus has announced staying open beyond their closing date of April 16 with bonus 3-day weekends through the end of April and a bonus weekend May 5-6.

The Low troughs will pass through Idaho by Wednesday PM, and then it will clear off and a high pressure system finally arrives by Friday, April 7 and remains in place for the weekend. High temps will soar beginning on Friday to create a nice spring skiing final weekend for some resorts and spring corn snow. Valley highs are forecast to hit the low 60s and high temps at the ski areas will hit the high 30s to low 40s. Finally!

Extended Forecast

The weather will dry out the week of April 10th with above-average temps.
