Santa Delivers

Summary

Refresh for many areas on Monday before Santa delivers to California for Christmas morning. A southern storm will then favor Taos during the middle of the week before the attention shifts back to the Canadian destinations as we head into the final weekend of 2018.

Short Term Forecast

The Collective Resorts in Utah and Canada scored the deepest totals during the week of December 17th.

Deepest 5-Day Totals

Alta: 15"

Snowbird: 13"

Revelstoke: 12"

Banff Sunshine: 11"

Snowbasin: 11"

This Week

Santa is now delivering powder to many areas across the West to start the week of December 24th. Jackson Hole, the resorts of Utah, and Aspen Snowmass will receive periods of heavy snow on Christmas Eve.

The focus will then shift further west as Mammoth and Squaw Alpine receive the goods for Christmas morning. They are my early-week pick.

A slow-moving system will then slide into the southwestern United States and deliver a good refresh for Taos Ski Valley from Wednesday and into Thursday. Thursday morning will be a good time to watch for soft turns in New Mexico.

The attention will then shift back to the north as Revelstoke, Banff Sunshine, and Lake Louise watch for another refresh as we head into Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. Revelstoke will be a great place to chase over the final weekend of 2018.

Extended Forecast

New Years

Very cold temperatures will look to settle into much of the West as we close out 2018. Single-digit temperatures will fall across much of the Intermountain West as additional storms slide down the spine of the Rockies.

Many areas will see additional chances for snow but I have very low confidence in the details. Keep an eye on all of the Mountain Collective destinations and stay tuned to our local forecasters for the latest updates.

Thanks for reading and look for my next update on Monday, December 31st.
