This Week
Our final days of 2018 featured a cold storm for the Intermountain West and DEEP totals for Jackson Hole. Here was the scene on Sunday, December 30th.
The focus will now shift to Taos as the storm wraps up in the southwest. This could be a great spot to grab New Year's Day turns but I would also keep an eye on Aspen Snowmass as a possible wildcard.
We'll then turn back up into the Canadian Rockies during the middle of the week as SkiBig3 and Revelstoke continue their great past few weeks. Wednesday, Thursday, and potentially Friday morning will be the times to watch.
Mammoth and Squaw Alpine will then grab the headlines as we enter the first weekend of 2019. Our Tahoe Forecaster, Bryan Allegretto, had this to say in his latest update:
We will be fine tuning the forecast through the week. I'm still not overly impressed yet with most model runs showing only light snow possible, but the trend is towards unsettled weather next weekend.
The Collective Destinations throughout Idaho, Wyoming, and Utah will also try to join the fun but many details will need to be worked out over the next few days.
Extended Forecast
Early Next Week
The storm track will then begin to shift a bit to the south early next week. Keep an eye on Utah, the Aspen Snowmass destinations, and possibly Taos for the goods.
As always, stay tuned to all of the Mountain Collective destinations and our team of local forecasters for the latest updates.
Thanks for reading and look for my next update on Monday, January 7th.
