Showery Week Ahead

Summary

Rain and snow showers are in the forecast over the next few days. Saturday brings the chance for a small amount of snow for the southern peaks of VT and NH. Read below for all the details!

Short Term Forecast

Good Tuesday morning, everyone. The region is looking at partly cloudy skies, temperatures in the upper 30s, and winds 5-20 mph. It’s feeling like spring out there with these mild temperatures. Here is a look at the GOES-16 satellite image:

Monday’s rainstorm delivered a serious blow to snow conditions in the higher elevations. Temperatures were too warm throughout the lower atmosphere to support any snowfall. With all the rain and consistent above freezing days we’ve had the past few weeks, the snow season in the mountains of New England is beginning to come to an end.

Thanks to cold air advection from the north, temperatures will remain below freezing in the mountains this Tuesday. Winds will be significant at 15-30 mph with gusts up to 40 mph. This will help keep melting from damaging lingering snowpacks. Here is the HRRR temperature forecast for this Tuesday:

Temperatures remain cool for the mountains on Wednesday. Highs are expected to climb only into the mid-upper 30s. There is the chance for mixed precipitation showers to graze the peaks of NH and VT early in the morning. These showers will be extremely brief and produce little to no accumulations. Other than that, expect another partly cloudy, cool spring day in New England. Here is a look at those showers:

Extended Forecast

Chance of snow showers again for the southern Greens and Whites on Thursday morning. These showers will be scattered and isolated to specific peaks in VT and NH. Accumulations will be light from these quick-moving storms. Models are suggesting snow accumulations of a Trace-1”.

The next storm system tracking to impact New England is setting up for the early Saturday morning timeframe. This storm will mainly affect the southern state of MA and CT. Temperatures down south will be above freezing and support mainly rain. The southern half of VT and NH will see temperatures hugging that freezing line in the early morning. This will allow steady snow to fall and produce a small amount of snow for those areas. We are 5 days out from this storm, so of course, anything could change, but we’re looking at snow accumulations between 1-2”. Here is the storm track from the GFS:

Clear conditions move in for Sunday to finish out the weekend. That’s all we have for this forecast, make sure to check back tomorrow for updates on everything mentioned above. Thank you, everyone.
