New Zealand Daily Snow

No Major Snowfall for the Next Week
Summary
It's been a solid two weeks since South Island ski fields have had a decent dump of snow, so we could really do with a freshen-up. Unfortunately, we'll have to wait at least another week as nothing is showing up on the forecast. The best we'll manage is a light dusting of snow in Canterbury Sunday night into early Monday. However, models hint at more unsettled weather at the turn of the month.
Short Term Forecast
Friday & Saturday (19th & 20th July)
Skies will be partly cloudy over the South Island on Friday as northerly winds pick up. A weak front will bring a little rain and high-level snow Friday night. Winds then turn northwest for Saturday, so skies will clear up.
Sunday & Monday (21st & 22nd July)
South Island ski fields will be nice and calm on Sunday, with just some high cloud overhead for the Southern Lakes.
Then, a weakish storm rolls over the North Island from late Sunday through Monday. This will see cooler southerlies develop over the South Island, pushing in light snowfall to Canterbury Sunday night through early Monday. Just a dusting of 1-3cm or less is expected before skies clear Monday afternoon.
Snow showers won't quite reach the ski fields in the Southern Lakes, although they'll get close, and cloudy skies will quickly clear to fine on Monday.
Extended Forecast
Another quick cold front should bring some light snow showers to the South Island on Tuesday, July 23rd. Northwesterlies may dominate through the back half of that week, with rain and high-level snow possibly spilling over the Main Divide from about Friday, July 26th, through Sunday, July 28th. That's still a long way off, mind you, so it's subject to change
Thanks for reading. I'll continue to provide these forecasts every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday throughout the southern hemisphere season.
