Spring Snow will increase
Summary
Important All NW ski areas are closed. Please check the websites of your favorite ski areas for more information. If you are cross – country skiing, AT skiing or snowshoeing please have the needed skills, knowledge and abilities to safely enjoy your favorite snow activity. Please respect social distancing and local “stay at home” health guidelines. Check avalanche risk with the new snowfall – check the NW Avalanche Center. Seriously consider not going. We do not want to put any additional pressure on the emergency response system if you have a problem.
Short Term Forecast
After a temporary break with mostly dry weather on Thursday, a weather system will move in with new snowfall for the Cascades through Friday and Saturday. The heaviest snowfall will focus on the North Cascades from Stevens north to Baker and farther north into the mountains of BC (Whistler). We will see heavier snowfall in those areas northern areas, with 5-10” (SL: 2,500ft) from Friday into Saturday (48hr snowfall). It’s really a shame nothing is open, this will be respectable snow with pretty good quality. The southern Cascades of WA and into Oregon will see 2-6” of new snow.
Extended Forecast
By next Sunday, Monday and Tuesday a series of moderately strong weather systems will produce possible significant snowfall. The focus of the heavy snowfall will be later Monday into Tuesday/Wednesday. Snowfall accumulations will be notable for this time of year (late season) with 8-15” (SL: 2,500) in a 48hr period. Again, do not go to backcountry -- this pattern will produce high avalanche danger – plus you should be “stay at home”. I don’t want to be your nagging nanny, but come on.
