Update

Saturday

The official snow report shows that 1 inch of snow fell on Friday night at mid-mountain and at the summit, though I do not see much on the summit snow stake camera. The storm on Friday did not take a favorable track to bring much snow to Steamboat, and we were not expecting much accumulation, so a dusting to an inch seems about right. For Saturday’s weather, in the morning it is cloudy at the base and sunny at the summit, and temperatures should be in the teens for most of the day.

Sunday, Monday, Tuesday

These days should be dry with temperatures in the 20s, more sunshine on Sunday and Monday and then increasing clouds on Tuesday.

Wednesday and Thursday

A storm over the west coast will push clouds, moisture, and snow showers into Colorado, though I do not think we’ll see consistent accumulating snow during Wednesday and Thursday. These days will just be a tease ahead of the main storm.

Storm Thursday night to Saturday morning

All forecast models are showing a strong storm bringing significant snow from later Thursday through later Friday evening. It looks like Friday, January 18th has a good chance for being a powder day, and there could be more snow on Friday evening which would lead to more powder on Saturday morning. Snowfall from this storm should be greater than 6 inches.

And after the storm…

There might be another system around January 21st and maybe another one around January 23rd, but now we’re out in fantasy land where we do not have much or any confidence in the forecast, so we’ll need to wait at least a few more days to see what weather we’ll get during the following week.

Thanks for reading and check back each morning for daily updates!
