Just the storm that we need

Summary

There is fresh snow as of Saturday morning, with more on the way. Let's get this winter started!

Update

Reminder: This season is starting with a much lower snowpack compared to average and compared to last season, so there are only a handful of trails open at the moment. The current storm should help the operations crew to open (a lot) more terrain over the coming days.

We saw about 1 inch of snow on Friday and about 6 inches at mid-mountain on Friday night, and this brings our storm total to about 9 inches.

On Saturday, we'll see a few more inches of snow during the morning, then we should see a lull in the snow during the midday and afternoon hours (there is a chance that accumulating snow continues as moisture will be adequate and storm energy will be nearby, but most models do show a lull during the afternoon). Temperatures will be in the teens.

From Saturday night to Sunday night, the next part of the storm will bring a lot of snow and strong winds. Snow totals from Saturday night to Sunday night should be in the 10-20 inch range, and there is a decent chance that we push to 25+ inches if everything comes together. On Sunday, strong winds could slow or close lifts, and snow conditions could be thicker due to strong winds and rising temperatures. Also, driving outside of the town area on Sunday could be difficult or impossible due to low visibility closing some roads. Temperatures will be in the 20s.

Monday is when the storm should wind down. The thicker snow from Sunday should help the base to 'fill in' and I think operations crews should be able to open more terrain. Temperatures will be in the 20s.

Tuesday through Friday will be dry and pretty warm with high temperatures in the 30s to low 40s.

The next chance for snow will be during the weekend of Saturday, December 9 to Sunday, December 10. At the moment, it appears that this storm will bring low-to-moderate snow totals, though it could be a solid refresh with a decent amount of terrain open across the mountain.
