Windy on Sunday!

Summary

It's snowing and it's also very windy, and the wind will be the story on Sunday. Snow will continue through Sunday night and then end by Monday morning.

Update

Reminder: This season is starting with a much lower snowpack compared to average and compared to last season, so there are only a handful of trails open at the moment. The current storm should help mountain crews to open (a lot) more terrain over the coming days.

On Saturday we saw about 4 inches of snow on the mid-mountain snow stake, and then another 3 inches accumulated on the stake on Saturday night.

Now on Sunday, it'll snow for most of the day with another 4-8+ inches, but the big story is the wind, which is currently gusting 50-70mph at the summit. Strong winds could impact lift operations as well as the snow quality. We will of course take the snow, and the wind will help the snow to 'fill in' the base across the mountain, but overall I am skeptical of Sunday's conditions due to the wind (though the wind should gradually slow down through the day). Temperatures will be in the 20s.

On Sunday night, the final wave of the storm could deliver another 4-8+ inches of accumulation, and the wind speeds should continue to slow down.

Monday could be a fun day to be out with the snow ending, the winds slowing down, and mountain crews potentially opening more terrain. Temperatures will be in the 20s.

Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday will be mostly sunny, dry, and warm with high temperatures in the 30s to low 40s.

Our next chance for snow will be sometime between Friday, December 8 to Sunday, December 10. This looks like a moderate storm, with a first estimate of snow accumulations in the 4-8 inch range. We'll dial in the details during the next few days.
