Snow on the way for the rest of the week

Summary

A multi-part storm will bring snow from Wednesday to Saturday night with conditions becoming softer by the day.

Update

Tuesday

Tuesday was dry and mostly cloudy with a high temperature in the 30s.

Wednesday

We are starting Wednesday with no new snow on the snow stake as the storm focused most of its snow on Colorado's southern mountains on Tuesday night.

On Wednesday, may see some snow in the morning as a fast-moving line of showers moves across Colorado. Otherwise, I think snow accumulations will be pretty low during the day as the wind direction from the south and southwest is not favorable for us. Later in the day or early evening, the wind direction should switch to blow from the west, which is favorable, and this is when we could begin to see steadier snow. The high temperature on Wednesday will be in the 20s.

Thursday

Thursday has a chance of being a powder day as some forecast models show 4-8+ inches of snow falling on Wednesday night as the wind direction becomes favorable (from the west), storm energy and moisture stream over northern Colorado, and we are squeezed by slightly different wind directions to the north and south, which creates a convergence of air and forces this air to rise and create snow. If everything lines up just right, the snow will continue on Thursday during the day with another 2-4+ inches of accumulation. The high temperature will be in the teens and snow quality should be pretty good (fluffy).

Friday

I think snowfall will wane on Thursday night, and then it will pick up on Friday morning through midday as the next piece of storm energy tracks through Colorado. We should see 2-5+ inches late on Thursday night through Friday midday/afternoon. The high temperature should be in the teens.

Saturday

If snowfall hangs around on Friday night, then Saturday morning could offer soft conditions. Snow showers may increase on Saturday afternoon and evening with some additional accumulation by Sunday morning. The high temperature on Saturday will again be in the teens.

Sunday

Sunday should bring clearing skies, sunny weather, and a high temperature in the teens. It'll be a lovely end to the weekend with soft snow due to the storms from the previous few days.

Longer Range

Monday, February 12 to Saturday, February 17 should be mostly dry, though two weak storms could bring us times of clouds and snow showers throughout the week. Then the next potential storm could arrive in Colorado sometime between Sunday, February 18, and Wednesday, February 21.

My next update will be Thursday morning.
