Posting Schedule

I am traveling to ski with my family through February 2. In an attempt to spend as much time with them (and get some sleep, too!), my posts will be shorter and more to the point than normal. And I will write on a Monday/Wednesday/Friday schedule unless it makes sense to adjust this based on the timing of upcoming storms. Finally, at the bottom of each post, I will always mention when to expect the next post. Thanks for your understanding and your support!

Saturday

On Friday afternoon and Friday night, the mid-mountain snow stake measured 2 inches and the summit snow stake measured 4 inches.

These snow totals were a little lower than I expected, but the good news is the snow is continuing to fall now on Saturday morning, and the mountain should pick up another 2-4 inches on Saturday and into Saturday night. The high temperature on Saturday will be in the upper teens.

Sunday

Sunday could start with softer snow if flakes continue to accumulate on Saturday night. Otherwise, Sunday should be dry with partly cloudy skies and a high temperature in the low 20s.

Monday to Friday

Monday to Friday should be dry with mostly sunny skies and a high temperature in the 20s. A storm will track to the south of Colorado, and it will likely stay far enough away so that any snowflakes that push into Colorado also stay far south of Steamboat.

Longer Range

Starting around the weekend of February 1-2, most longer-range forecast models show that a stormy weather pattern will develop over the western U.S. It is too soon to lock in any storms specifically for Colorado, but with most versions of most forecast models showing cool air and storminess around the area, it's a pretty good bet that there will be periods of snow in Colorado between about February 1-7.
