Windy Tuesday, Nicer Weather Wednesday Into The Weekend...

Summary

Sunny & mild through Saturday. We cool down slightly for Sunday, and even more so next week. We could see some rain & snow showers Mon-Wed next week.

Short Term Forecast

We have gusty winds again for Tuesday as expected. The winds are gusting from the east up to 70+ mph over the ridges which is causing some lift closures. Sunny with highs into the 40s on the mountains to around 50 degrees at lake level.

Wednesday through Saturday high pressure continues to build over the West Coast continuing the dry pattern. We will warm into the 50s on the mountains to around 60 degrees at lake level.

Lighter winds through Friday. Then we could see gusts of 30-40+ mph over the ridges Saturday.

Extended Forecast

The trough digging into the West Coast is slower on the models over the last 2 days. Sunday we may still see sunny skies and breezy winds with high in the 50s, but a few degrees cooler than Saturday with 40s possible above 8000 ft.

Next week the long-range models still show the trough digging in over the West Coast, and possibly sticking around through the 2nd week of April.

trough 2

The European and Canadian models show a closed low along the West Coast Monday through next Wednesday.

The GFS model is drier. The trough is there for systems to spin up into. We should at least see cooler and breezy weather for next week. We will have to see if a system spins up along the coast bringing some rain and snow. The GFS models has moisture around. This time of year sometimes we just need some moisture in the atmosphere and then we see afternoon convective showers pop up from the heating during the day.

If we see a closed low along the coast things could get a little more interesting with some heavier precipitation possible and maybe some accumulating snow on the mountains. We will continue to keep an eye on it. The ensemble mean models show light-moderate precip amounts possible next week.

Fantasy Range:

The trough near the West Coast could allow more systems to dive into CA. It's April so it's much harder to see any stronger storms. We have to hope for closed lows to sit over the area for a few days and possibly draw in some deeper moisture from off of the Pacific. But these systems are very hard to forecast more than a few days out.

The extended long-range models suggest we could see troughing into the 2nd half of April.

We may not see any significant storms, but it may prevent any extended periods of warm weather with unsettled weather possible at times. Maybe a decent system will sneak in before most ski areas close by the 18th...

Stay tuned...BA
