4th of July Weekend Forecast...
Summary
Summer warmth is here to stay through the 4th of July weekend. Afternoon thunderstorms are possible each day through the weekend.
Update
Strong high pressure over the Pacific NW brought record-breaking heat over the last few days. That ridge is still in the same region today (Wednesday) but starting to weakened and shift east. That will bring relief from the record heat but it still remains warm for our region.
Mostly sunny with highs still around 80 degrees at the lake and into the 80s away from the lake for the lower elevations. Highs in the 60s for the higher elevations. We will see southwest breezes on the lake Wednesday afternoon with gusts of 20-30 mph bringing some chop on the water. Then lighter winds expected Thursday - Friday.
The caveat will be gusty outflow winds near any afternoon thunderstorms. Moisture is increasing from the south with thunderstorm chances each afternoon. Watch for lightning and gusty outflow winds with any thunderstorms along with heavy downpours.

The Weekend:
High pressure over the Northwest continues to weaken and shift east through the weekend.
A weaker area of high pressure over the 4 corners region through the weekend will continue the warm temperatures but closer to summer averages. Highs in the up 70s to around 80 degrees on the lake and low 80s away from the lake. The 60s for the higher elevations. The lighter winds look to continue as well.
Be sure to be using OpenSummit for your summer mountain weather. It is especially helpful with the colder temperatures and stronger winds normally seen when hiking the higher elevations.
Afternoon thunderstorm chances continue through the weekend. Sunday some drier air may start to work in bringing a lower chance for thunderstorms as compared to Thursday through Saturday. Here is a look at the total precipitation forecast through the weekend.
The precipitation is needed but will be hit and miss. Some areas that see thunderstorms could see heavy downpours while other areas stay dry through the weekend.
Early Next Week:
A trough may work into the West next week. We could start to see a slight cooldown along with some drier air starting Monday through midweek. Sunny skies with highs in the 70s on the lake. Afternoon Zephyr winds could return with gusty southwest winds during the afternoons.
The good news is that the ridiculous heat we saw earlier this week looks to be leaving for a while with more seasonal temperatures going through next week.
I will now be posting weekly updates on Wednesdays throughout the rest of the summer. Be sure to be using OpenSummit for your summer mountain weather. We have lots of new location points and map overlays including smoke and lightning maps, as well as offline maps when you're out of range. We will be adding more features throughout the summer!
Stay tuned & Happy 4th!...BA
