Powder Friday, Saturday, and maybe Sunday

Summary

Thursday will bring a few showers, Friday will have some fresh snow, and then more snow will fall from Friday night through Sunday morning.

Update

Wednesday

Wednesday was a mixed day with sunshine in the morning, more clouds during the afternoon, and even a quick afternoon snow shower over the surrounding terrain. Temperatures were in the 30s.

Thursday

Thursday will be a mixed day with some sunshine, some clouds, and some snow showers with minimal accumulations. The temperature should be in the 20s to low 30s, just a few degrees cooler than Wednesday.

Thursday Night to Sunday Morning

The first part of the storm will bring 2-6+ inches of snow from Thursday night to Friday afternoon. This first part of the storm will deliver banded/showery snowfall which could hit or miss the mountain, so I am keeping my expectations low with the acknowledgment that if we see some of the more intense showers, snow amounts could surprise us on the high side.

The second part of the storm from Friday night to Sunday morning will bring abundant moisture and a more favorable wind direction from the west-northwest and the northwest. The combination of this favorable wind direction, plentiful moisture, and slowly cooling temperatures should yield increasingly good powder conditions from Saturday morning through Sunday morning.

Total snowfall by Sunday morning should be 8-14 inches, with a chance for higher amounts due to abundant moisture, the long duration of the storm, and a favorable wind direction.

Temperatures on Saturday and Sunday will be in the teens to low 20s, and wind speeds will not be that fast, so this will be a comfortable storm, weatherwise.

Longer Range

We will likely see dry weather on Monday and Tuesday (February 5-6), then the next storm should deliver multiple snow days to Colorado between Wednesday, February 7, and Saturday, February 10. At the moment, it appears that snowfall from this system will favor the southern part of Colorado, including Telluride, though this is still one week away and the details may change.

My next update will be on Friday morning.
