Early-week storm in Colorado, then cool air heads east

Summary

Two storms will bring significant snow to Colorado from Monday through Wednesday, then the cooler and stormy weather should shift a bit to the east as we move into November, which hopefully means a decent chance for more snowmaking.

Short Term Forecast

Last Week’s Powder

Early-season storms brought October powder to Canada, the Northern Rockies, Utah, and now Colorado. It’s always fun to ride fresh snow, and it’s extra special when we can enjoy freshies in October!

Forecast for Mon, Oct 28 – Thu, Oct 31

Last week, we talked about the possibility of a storm to hang far enough west to bring snow to Colorado. Since that time, all of the weather forecast models trended toward a strong storm for Colorado, and indeed most mountains in the state should receive at least 5-10 inches with up to 18+ inches in a few spots. The deepest snow should fall by Monday midday with another weaker storm on Tuesday into Wednesday.

Outlook for Fri, Nov 1 – Sun, Nov 3

The storm over Colorado will move to the east later in the week, and this system could bring some accumulating snow to the highest elevations of the northeast. Also, northern British Columbia should see at least moderate snow totals over the weekend.

Extended Forecast

Outlook for Mon, Nov 4 – Fri, Nov 8

During the first full week of November, most models agree that the coldest air will stay locked up near and north of the United States / Canada border. This means that the best chances for snow and temperatures conducive to snow-making will be over western and eastern Canada as well as New England.

It’s possible that a storm could hit the Rockies sometime later next week (within a few days of November 7th) though that’s too far out to have confidence in the details.

Thanks so much for reading, and check back for my next post on Thursday, October 31st.
