Northeastern storm this week, west becomes active next week

Summary

Last week, the northeast scored with 5-10 inches. This week will bring an additional 6-16 inches to northern New England, and western Canada will continue to receive moderate snow amounts. Then next week, the weather pattern could begin to change with storms possible in the western United States.

Short Term Forecast

Wintry in the Northeast

Thanks to last week’s snow and consistent cold air, the mountains across the northeast have a wintry look to them, and a significant storm this week will add to their base!

Forecast for Mon, Nov 11

The week will start with a fast-moving storm that will brush by eastern Colorado, bringing only a dusting to 2 inches of snow to a handful of Colorado's northeastern mountains.

The more interesting aspect of the weak storm in Colorado is that it will quickly move to the east, first bringing snow to the midwest on Monday, and then it will gain strength and be a significant snow producer for northern New England.

Forecast for Tue, Nov 12 – Wed, Nov 13

The big story will be 6-16 inches of snow for the mountains of northern New England. Whiteface, Jay Peak, and Stowe will be favored with the most snow falling from late Monday night through Tuesday.

And while the northeast enjoys an early-season powder party, another moderate storm should bring snow to western Canada.

Forecast for Thu, Nov 14 – Sun, Nov 17

In the northeast for later this week and into this weekend, we’ll see only light snow, though temperatures will continue to be cold which will allow mountain crews to crank out the machine-made snow.

Over the west, one or two weak-to-moderate storms should bring snow to the Rockies from Friday through the weekend, and the coastal mountains of British Columbia and Alaska should see significant snow.

Extended Forecast

Outlook for Mon, Nov 18 – Fri, Nov 22

For the first half of November, the atmosphere brought snow and cold air to the east while the western United States stayed mostly dry and warm.

Coming up for next week, it looks like the atmosphere will be in a period of transition with weak-to-moderate storms trying to infiltrate the Northwest and the Southwest. Maybe this will bring snow back to the western United States?!

Thanks so much for reading, and check back for my next post on Thursday, November 14th.
