Forecast: 1-2 feet in the southwest this week

Summary

The big story this week will be a slow-moving storm over the southwestern United States which should deliver deep snow to Arizona, New Mexico, southern Utah, and southern Colorado. Let it snow!

Short Term Forecast

Snow last weekend (Sat, Nov 16 – Sun, Nov 17)

This past weekend was pretty quiet across the lower 48 states.

A weak system slipped through Montana, Wyoming, and northern Colorado with very light snow amounts. Farther north, a stronger storm dropped 4-8+ inches over north-coastal and interior British Columbia.

Forecast for Mon, Nov 18 – Tue, Nov 19

We’ll start the week with very little snow on Monday over the United States and Canada.

Then on Tuesday, a weak system will bring some snow to areas near and east of the continental vide over Alberta and Montana, and a storm over the northeast should deliver at least a couple inches of snow (maybe much more!) to northern New England.

Forecast for Wed, Nov 20 – Sat, Nov 23

The main event later this week will be a slow-moving storm that will bring multiple days of snow to the southwestern United States.

While the most popular areas of Tahoe, northern Utah, and central and northern Colorado will see lighter amounts (1-6 inches or so), the deepest totals of 12-24 inches should fall over Arizona, New Mexico, southern Utah, and southern Colorado.

Forecast for Sun, Nov 24

Once the southwestern storm moves out of the southwest by Saturday, we’ll likely see drier weather over the weekend with just light snow in the far northwest and the northeast.

Extended Forecast

Outlook for Mon, Nov 25 – Fri, Nov 29

Thanksgiving week should be active with the potential for multiple storms tracking through the northern and central Rockies, and maybe some storminess coming into the southwest as well.

It’s possible that these storm tracks could combine with more snow over the northeast, though that’s less certain.

Thanks so much for reading, and check back for my next post on Thursday, November 21st.
