From Above

Many readers have sent us photos that they’ve taken of ski areas while high above on a commercial airliner. It’s such a treat to be able to see our favorite mountains from above, and here two of the best images that we’ve received in mid-November.

Forecast for Thu, Nov 21 – Fri, Nov 22

As I write this forecast on Thursday, November 21st, snow is ongoing across the southwest, especially in Arizona, New Mexico, Utah, and Colorado. The southwestern storm will hang over this same area on Thursday and then slowly move away on Friday. Also on Friday, there could be a little snow over northern New England.

Forecast for Sat, Nov 23 – Sun, Nov 24

This weekend will offer mostly quiet weather over the lower 48 states. The action will be on the corners with a little bit of snow in New England, and potentially significant snow in central and northern British Columbia.

Forecast for Mon, Nov 25 – Fri, Nov 29

I have high confidence that the western United States will see multiple storms during the week of Thanksgiving. The question is about where exactly these storms will track.

The European model (not shown) and Canadian model (below) both forecast significant snow for most of the western United States during Thanksgiving week.

However, the American GEFS model (below) keeps the storm track a little farther to the north, bringing more snow to western Canada, the central and northern Rockies, as well as the Great Lakes and New England.

I do not know which model will be correct, but since all three models agree that at least the northern and central Rockies will see significant snow, that’s a very good bet.

Outlook for Sat, Nov 30 – Wed, Dec 4

The storm train will continue during the first week of December as all models show that storms should bring snow and cool air to a majority of the skiable terrain across North America. The map below makes me smile, and I hope that it makes you smile as well:-)
