Pattern shifting to the East
Summary
A strong storm will bring snow to the Central Appalachians and Eastern Great Lakes on Monday and Tuesday while a weaker storm brings light snow to the Western U.S. A generally quiet pattern will develop over the second half of the week aside from Alaska and Northern British Columbia, but the Northeast and Southwest could see some snow heading into the weekend.
Short Term Forecast
Snow for the Central Appalachians/Eastern Great Lakes:
A strong storm early this week will bring moderate to heavy snow to much of the East Central U.S. from Ontario and Western New York, extending south to the Smoky Mountains in North Carolina/Tennessee. Check out our 5-day snow forecast, which shows a favorable outlook for ski resorts in West Virginia, Western Pennsylvania, and Ontario. New England will see mainly rain from the early week system with better opportunities in the 6-10 day outlook.
Forecast for Mon, Nov 30 – Tue, Dec 1:
The Central Appalachians and East Central U.S. will see their heaviest snow fall on Monday night and Tuesday. Out west, Coastal British Columbia and Northern Washington will see heavy snow on Monday, with light snow for the Oregon Cascades and Central/Northern Rockies on Monday night and Tuesday.
Forecast for Wed, Dec 2 – Thu, Dec 3:
The Northeast will see some light snow persist into Wednesday, mainly across Western New York, while New Mexico and Southern Colorado pick up some light snow on Wednesday as well. Heavy snow will fall across far Northwest British Columbia and Alaska on Wednesday and Thursday.
Forecast for Fri, Dec 4 – Sat, Dec 5:
The end of the week will be quiet for much of Western North America, though Northern British Columbia will continue to be favored with more snow. A storm will be possible for the Northeast this weekend, starting on Saturday, but considerable uncertainty exists this far out.
Extended Forecast
Outlook for Sun, Dec 6 – Thu, Dec 10
The storm track will favor the East during this period with a drier pattern in place across the Western U.S. New England should see better snow chances during this time frame. The exception out west will be New Mexico and Arizona, where a southern-focused system could bring some snow around the 7th-8th. Farther north, British Columbia will be favored for more snow (and rain at times) during this period with a gradual southward shift in the storm track toward the 10th.
Thanks so much for reading! Check back for my next post on Wednesday, December 2nd.
