Pattern favoring the Northwest & Northeast

Summary

A storm will move across the Pacific Northwest & Northern Rockies late this week, bringing a welcome round of snow, while the extended range pattern out west will favor Central/Northern BC and Alaska. Meanwhile, the East will remain in an active pattern with continued snow chances between now and Thanksgiving along with near to below-average temperatures.

Short Term Forecast

Promising second half of November outlook for the East

The pattern has turned colder and more active across Eastern North America recently, and this trend looks to continue through Thanksgiving with near to below-average temperatures and chances for natural snow every couple of days. Check out the view from Killington, Vermont, who is already open for the season and has picked up several inches of snow over the past few days.

Forecast for Wed 11/17 – Thu 11/18

A storm will impact Northwest BC and Southeast Alaska with heavy snow on Wednesday. Farther south, the next storm will reach the Washington Cascades on Thursday afternoon. A storm will bring rain or mixed precipitation to the Northeast on Wednesday night & early Thursday, but a cold front will arrive on Thursday afternoon with rain changing to snow at many ski areas.

Forecast for Fri 11/19 – Sat 11/20

A storm will move across the Pacific Northwest and Northern Rockies on Friday and Saturday with snow favoring the Southern Washington Cascades, Northern/Central Idaho, and the Tetons in Wyoming. Meanwhile, the Northeast will see another good round of snow showers on Thursday night & Friday along with colder temperatures.

An active storm track will also continue across Northern BC with additional heavy snow expected, especially along the Coast Range.

Forecast for Sun 11/21 – Mon 11/22

A strong storm will bring heavy snow to Central/Northern BC and Southeast Alaska on Sunday & Monday, with light/moderate snow reaching Southern BC and Washington on Monday.

A storm will also impact the Upper Midwest on Sunday & possibly Monday, though snowfall amounts/coverage is uncertain at this time. This storm will reach the East early next week with rain expected to change over to snow across the Appalachians at some point on Monday.

Extended Forecast

Outlook for Tue 11/23 – Sat 11/27

The East will be the most favored region in the U.S. for snow during Thanksgiving week with one or more storms possible along with near or below-average temperatures. The main storm track out west will be over Southeast Alaska and Northern BC, but it's possible we could see a weaker storm slip into the Western U.S. at some point.

Thanks so much for reading! Next update on Friday (11/19).
