Summary

The East will join the powder party on Sunday & Monday as a powerful Nor'easter arrives with deep snow totals expected for ski resorts from Maine to North Carolina. British Columbia will also see a storm on Sunday & Monday favoring the Interior with rain issues for ski areas near the Coast. Beyond Monday, the pattern will continue to be most favorable for the East heading into late January.

Short Term Forecast

Big storm for the East on Sunday-Monday

A powerful storm will slam the East late this weekend and into early next week with heavy snow expected over a large area. Some snowfall uncertainties remain for areas of New England especially, depending on slight variations in the storm track. But in general, deep totals are likely with this storm along the Appalachian Mountains from New England to North Carolina.

Be sure to check in with the Mid-Atlantic and New England Daily Snows to stay up-to-date on this storm.

Forecast for Fri 1/14 – Sat 1/15:

A weak storm will bring some light snow to the Rockies on Friday, favoring areas along and east of the Continental Divide. The East will also see some light snow showers and flurries at times, mainly on Friday. A stronger storm will bring heavy snow to Alaska and Northwest BC.

Forecast for Sun 1/16 – Mon 1/17:

A powerful storm will impact the East with the heavy snow developing across the Southeast & Mid-Atlantic on Saturday night & Sunday, and New York & New England on Sunday night & Monday. A strong storm will also impact British Columbia with the best snow for northwestern and eastern portions of the province, while lower elevation slopes of Southwest BC will see more rain than snow.

Forecast for Tue 1/18 – Wed 1/19:

The East will see some lingering snow early Tuesday, then a weak/moderate storm will bring a round of snow to the Upper Midwest on Tuesday and the East on Wednesday. A couple of weaker storms will also bring light to moderate snow to portions of British Columbia and the Northern Rockies, while ski areas closer to the coast will continue to experience mild temps & rain issues.

Extended Forecast

Outlook for Thu 1/20 – Mon 1/24:

The storm track during this period will be most favorable across the East with more snow possible for the Mid-Atlantic and New England along with below-average temperatures. The West will remain in a rut during this period with a weak storm possible early on across Southern BC & the Northern U.S. Rockies, before the storm track retreats further north into Alaska and Northern BC.
