The East is also looking more favorable with a round of snow on Wed followed by a strong storm Fri-Sat.
Short Term Forecast
New Mexico scoring the goods
March is off to a great start in the Land of Enchantment with another deep storm cycle underway following last weekend's storm. As of Tuesday morning, Taos had picked up 34 inches of snow in 4 days and additional heavy snow is expected on Thursday. According to the New Mexico Daily Snow, Sipapu, Ski Sante Fe, and Red River have all surpassed 20 inches in the past 4 days as well.
Forecast for Wed 3/9 – Thu 3/10:
A storm will continue to impact the Central and Southern Rockies on Wednesday and Thursday with Utah, Colorado, and Northern New Mexico favored for the deepest totals. Backside snow showers will linger over Oregon early on Wednesday with only a dusting for most of the Tahoe region.
A storm for the East on Wednesday has trended colder and snow is now expected for Pennsylvania, New York, and Southern New England.
Forecast for Fri 3/11 – Sat 3/12:
Lingering snow over the Southern Rockies will taper off on Friday. The next series of storms will begin to impact Western Canada with snow favoring the Northern BC and Alaska initially on Friday before picking up over Southern BC and far Northern Washington on Saturday. A weak disturbance could also bring some flurries to the Northern Rockies on Friday.
A strong storm will impact the East on Friday and Saturday and this storm has also trended more favorable in terms of the timing with precipitation and the arrival of cold air. Widespread snow is now expected throughout the Appalachians (possibly mixing with ice or rain in some areas) with Pennsylvania, New York, and New England favored for the deepest totals.
Forecast for Sun 3/13 – Mon 3/14:
Back-to-back strong storms will impact the Northwest during this period with heavy snow expected across BC, Washington, and Northern Idaho. However, snow levels will likely start to creep up across the Cascades and Coast Range on Monday as warmer air arrives.
The Northeast could see some lingering snow from the previous storm on Sunday morning, then a weaker storm will move across the Great Lakes and Northeast on Sunday night and Monday.
Extended Forecast
Outlook for Tue 3/15 – Sat 3/19:
An active storm track will be in place across the Northwest during this period with Washington, Oregon, BC, and the Northern Rockies being the most favored areas, while Utah and Colorado (and perhaps Tahoe) should get in on the action to a lesser extent. The pattern will turn warm and spring-like across the East following the previous weekend's snow and cold temps.
Thanks so much for reading! Next update on Friday (3/11).
