Active Pattern Favors the Northwest and the Sierra:

A winter pattern will take hold across the West at last with cold temperatures and snow on the way. The storm track will favor the Northwest and to a lesser extent the Sierra, while the Rockies will see multiple rounds of lighter snowfall. Parts of the Southwest could also see some sneaky good totals as storms will track across the Four Corners region after moving inland.

Forecast for Wed (Jan 3) to Thu (Jan 4):

A storm will bring heavy snow to the Sierra and Tahoe region early on Wednesday before moving into the Southwest with snow favoring the Four Corners region. Back-to-back weak storms will also impact the Northwest with snow levels lowering over time as colder air arrives.

A weak storm will bring light snow showers to New England while areas further south in the Appalachians will see flurries. 

Forecast for Fri (Jan 5) to Sat (Jan 6):

A weak storm will move across the Central Rockies with light snow expected. On its heels, a stronger storm will reach the Northwest with deep snow totals expected for the Cascades and moderate to locally heavy snow totals for the Interior Northwest.

Across the East, a storm will move into the Mid-Atlantic on Saturday with a mix of snow, ice, and rain expected. The Northern Great Lakes will also see a round of snow showers.

Forecast for Sun (Jan 7) to Mon (Jan 8):

The big storm for the Northwest will weaken somewhat as it moves southeast with moderate snowfall expected from the Sierra into the Rockies on Sunday. Another storm will bring more snow to parts of the Northwest on Monday.

Across the East, a storm will bring moderate to heavy snow to portions of the Northern Mid-Atlantic and Southern New England, with details subject to change depending on the exact path the storm takes. 

Outlook for Tue (Jan 9) to Sat (Jan 13):

An active pattern with below-average temperatures will continue across the West. The dominant storm track looks to favor the Northwest and the Northern Rockies, while the Sierra and the Central/Southern Rockies could pick up more snow as well. The East is also expected to stay active with more snow possible for the Great Lakes, Mid-Atlantic, and New England.

1. Go to the "Maps" tab and tap any location.
2. Tap "Add to Favorites".
3. Choose the name, location type, and favorites list.
4. Dig into the latest forecast and recent conditions.
5. View any custom location on your Favorites screen.

This means that you can save and view our 10-day forecasts and estimated conditions for your favorite backcountry ski location, high-alpine mission, camping spot, and home neighborhood.

You can also go to Settings > Your Favorites > Locations to edit and/or view any location that you have already favorited.
