Storm Track Favors the Northwest & Northern Rockies

Summary

The West stays active with at least two more storms in the next ten days. The first will favor the Northwest and northern Rockies, while the next storm will drop farther south favoring the Sierra. We may finally dry out from coast to coast during the third week of April.

Short Term Forecast

Five-Day Snow Forecast:

The next storm to impact the West is already underway and will bring snow to British Columbia and Alberta through Wednesday. A cold front on Tuesday will bring lower snow levels and better snow quality. Ridging will then dominate both coasts to end the week with overall warm and dry conditions.

Forecast for Mon (Apr 8) to Tue (Apr 9):

More snow is expected in the West to start the workweek, with another storm bringing snow to the Northwest and northern Rockies. The southern British Columbia coast will see the deepest snow with lesser totals in the interior and in southwestern Alberta. Some lingering snow showers from the previous storm departing the region will bring modest additional accumulations in Colorado and New Mexico.

Forecast for Wed (Apr 10) to Thu (Apr 11):

Snow will continue in western British Columbia midweek while the rest of the US and Canada stay mostly dry. Ridging on both coasts will bring a break in the stormy weather and a return to Spring like warm and dry conditions.

Forecast for Fri (Apr 12) to Sat (Apr 13):

Later in the week, another storm will move into the western US as an upper-level low drops down the west Coast. The main impacts will be in the Sierra where a period of heavy snow is possible with significant accumulations. In the East, some snow is possible in northeastern New York as a storm tracks up the eastern seaboard.

Extended Forecast

Forecast for Thu (Apr 11) to Sat (Apr 13):

The West will stay active during the middle part of the month, as the storm impacting the Sierra will track eastward into the Intermountain West. Below normal temperatures are expected during this time with additional snow expected in the region.

Thanks so much for reading! Next update on Wednesday (April 10).
