More Storms for the Northwest and the Rockies

Summary

An active pattern will continue across the West with two more storms over the next five days. These storms will favor the Northwest and the Rockies for the deepest totals with lighter amounts in the Sierra. Temperatures will also remain colder than average through early next week. In the East, a mild pattern will continue with above-average temperatures.

Short Term Forecast

5-Day Snow Forecast:

November will kick off with an active pattern as additional storms bring snow to the West. The Northwest remains favored for the deepest snowfall, with areas such as Mt. Baker (WA), Whitewater (BC), Mt. Bachelor (OR), and Schweitzer (ID) expected to see double-digit snow totals (inches) over the next 5 days.

The Front Range of Colorado (Winter Park, Loveland, A-Basin) could also score some impressive totals later in this period. By the way, A-Basin and Keystone are expected to open for the season this weekend.

Forecast for Fri (Nov 1) to Sat (Nov 2):

The next storm will bring heavy snow to the Northwest and light to moderate snow to California, Utah, Wyoming, and Montana. Alaska will also see more snow with storms arriving every 1-2 days. The eastern half of North America looks quiet in terms of snowfall, though the Great Lakes region will see heavy rain.

Forecast for Sun (Nov 3) to Mon (Nov 4):

The first storm will work its way eastward across the Rockies with heavy snow developing over the Colorado Front Range. The second storm will reach the Northwest on Monday with snow picking back up over BC, Washington, and Idaho.

Forecast for Tue (Nov 5) to Wed (Nov 6):

The second storm will move across the Rockies on Tuesday then most areas will see a drying trend on Wednesday as high pressure builds in from the west. The exception will be Southern Colorado and New Mexico where snow could linger into Wednesday.

The jet stream will shift northward during this time, with moisture-laden storms expected to bring heavy snow to the coastal ranges of Alaska.

Extended Forecast

Outlook for Thu (Nov 7) to Mon (Nov 11):

A warmer airmass will take over with nearly all areas of North America expected to see above-average temperatures.

Many areas of the West will see a break in the weather pattern, but lingering moisture and energy could result in additional snowfall over New Mexico and Colorado early in this period.

As high pressure weakens over the northwest, storms will begin to impact BC and Washington again with snow levels likely starting high but trending lower over time with a gradual cooling trend. Alaska looks favored for more snow as well.

New England will see temperatures cool to near-average values following a warm week, and some snow is possible for northern parts of New England.

Thanks so much for reading! Next update on Monday (November 4).
