Colorado Snow on Friday, Northwest Turns Snowy Next Week

Summary

Many areas in Colorado and New Mexico have picked up 1-3 FEET of snow this week. The storm cycle will last for one more day over the Southern Rockies with snow favoring Colorado. The pattern will turn active over the Northwest early next week with significant snow for Washington & BC, while the Sierra and the Central Rockies should pick up a little bit on the southern fringe as well.

Short Term Forecast

5-Day Snow Forecast:

An active pattern will continue across the West with snowfall favoring the Southern Rockies Friday-Saturday, and the Northwest Sunday-Tuesday.

Ski areas that will be favored for snowfall over the next 5 days include...

Forecast for Fri (Nov 8) to Sat (Nov 9):

Snow from the Southern Rockies storm will favor the easternmost ski resorts in Colorado, while Central Colorado and Northern New Mexico will pick up additional light to moderate snowfall.

A weak storm will bring rain and snow showers to Southern BC and the Northwest U.S. with snow levels starting high initially (above many ski resort summits), before gradually lowering on Saturday-Saturday night. Heavier snow will fall up north in Alaska.

Forecast for Sun (Nov 10) to Mon (Nov 11):

The next storm will pack more of a punch across the Northwest with heavier snow and colder temperatures for BC and Washington. There are question marks on how far south and east moisture from this storm will spread, but Tahoe and the Northern Rockies also have a chance to pick up some snow on Monday.

Forecast for Tue (Nov 12) to Wed (Nov 13):

A storm will move across the Northern Rockies on Tuesday with uncertainty on how much (if any) snow extends further south into Utah and Colorado. Another storm is expected to reach the Pacific Northwest and Western Canada with heavy snow possible.

A storm will also sweep across the North Central and Northeast U.S. While this will be an all-rain event for most areas, as colder air arrives, some snow may mix in over the Northern Great Lakes and over the higher terrain in New England.

Extended Forecast

Outlook for Thu (Nov 14) to Mon (Nov 18):

An active pattern will continue across the West with additional storms possible along with below-average temperatures. Storms in this pattern may dig a bit further south into California compared to recent weeks, putting the Sierra and Central Rockies into play for snowfall in addition to the Northwest.

Despite an overall warmer pattern, the East is expected to see a cold front move through during this period, bringing rain and the potential for high-elevation snow showers. The colder pattern may be short-lived, but still a change from recent weeks.

Thanks so much for reading! Next update on Monday (November 11).
