DEEP powder in the northwest

Summary

The northern half of the US and most of Canada will experience a cold and stormy weather pattern through the middle of December. The deepest snow will likely fall on the northwest and northern Rockies, with significant snow also in Tahoe, Utah, Colorado, and the northeast.

Short Term Forecast

The first full week of December is starting off with DEEP powder in the Pacific Northwest! Crystal Mountain and Stevens Pass in Washington state both reported 18-24 inches of snow over the weekend.

An active storm track, stretching from the northwest to the northeast, will bring additional storms during the week of December 5-9.

The deepest powder will likely accumulate in Utah and Colorado during the middle of the week (5-10 inches), Washington and Oregon on Thursday (1-2 FEET), and Tahoe on Thursday into Friday (1-2 FEET). The northeast will also see snow this week with 4-8 inches in general, and perhaps higher amounts if and end-of-week storm takes a favorable track.

Extended Forecast

If you’re a weekend warrior and hoping for powder during Saturday and Sunday December 10-11, you’re in luck, especially if you’re in the western US!

Looking ahead to next week, December 12-17, the same weather pattern should persist with the highest snowfall amounts and coolest temperatures in southern Canada and the northern US.

If this pattern keeps up, conditions during the busier second-half of December should be fantastic from coast-to-coast!
