Weather pattern shifts, will favor northwest and northeast

Summary

After January produced record-setting snowfall in the central Rockies (California, Utah, Colorado) and the southwest (Arizona, New Mexico), the weather pattern will shift in early February and will favor the northwest and northeast. In the northeast, temperatures will be cool with chances for snow most days – this should offer fantastic ski conditions through mid-month!

Short Term Forecast

Sometimes it seems like the atmosphere doesn’t like to share, especially when the weather pattern remains stuck for many weeks and favors one part of North America over another.

During most of January, the central and southern Rockies were favored while the northwest saw a break in the snow and the northeast battled periods of warmer temperatures and rain.

The atmosphere does play fair, though, and usually things even out.

This will be the case as we head into February, when the atmosphere will shift its focus and place most of the snow in the northwest and northeast.

The temperatures during the next week will generally mimic the snowfall forecast, will cooler-than-average readings in the northwest and northeast.

Extended Forecast

Looking at Super Bowl weekend, chances for snow will be highest in the northwest and northern Rockies while the northeast stays cool with lighter snow.

Often, the atmosphere locks in a weather pattern for at least a few weeks, and this will be the case with the upcoming pattern, which should continue through at least mid-February. The temperature forecast through the 10th shows that the northwest and northeast will continue to see the coolest conditions.

Stay tuned and thanks for reading!
