Just to Our North

Summary

Snow showers continue to linger, primarily in Northern Utah mountains. Weak disturbances will brush northern Utah this week, bringing the threat for snow showers and light accumulation. Storms may dig farther south next week.

Short Term Forecast

The main storm track is now just to our north. However, it was actually a disturbance to our south that spun up snow showers yesterday. High elevations of the Cottonwoods picked up another 3-6" of snow. It wasn't huge, but it was enough that both Alta and Snowbird are now over 500" on the season. That's usually the benchmark for a good season in LCC, so I think it's safe for us to say that snow-wise, we have had a good season. Obviously, given the current circumstances, I can't really celebrate in a typical fashion. I kinda feel like this:

Or this...

Very strange times.... I will be doing a snowpack analysis on Wednesday (April 1), so stay tuned for that.

This week, we will continue to see systems brush the area. This time of year, it doesn't take much moisture to bring showers. The high sun angle destabilizes things pretty fast with diurnal heating and you get popcorn showers in the afternoons and evenings especially. I think we will continue to see snow showers off and on for much of this week. Accumulations should be generally light and confined to the high elevations.

You can see below that the best moisture thru next weekend will be just to our north...

Good news for the snowpack in the Cascades, Idaho, and the Tetons.

Extended Forecast

After next weekend, there are some indications that the storm track could dig farther south, which would give Utah a shot at more significant snowfall again. Here is the latest mean heights for April 10:

This would suggest a fairly deep trough over the interior west. This is a long way out, but it's worth noting that there is a possibility of another decent series of storms.
