It's Snowing!

Summary

Our storm has been bringing snowfall to the region today. Snow showers continue today grandually wind down by Monday. A weak system for Wednesday and then a stronger storm possible by Saturday.

Short Term Forecast

It's snowing in the mountains of Utah and it is a beautiful sight! Hard to gauge just how much has fallen so far, but LCC is getting hammered currently. Alta-Collins shows 7" of snow from 0.80" of liquid since yesterday and he's the webcam at the base:

And some good accumulation (almost 6") so far at Powder Mountain:

Radar showing snow continuing to fall, particularly north of I-80:

Snow will continue through much of the day today and turn more showery this afternoon and tonight before tapering off on Monday. Still lookng good on the forecasted accumulations.

We see a break of sorts Monday and Tuesday, but we will be in a moist NW flow and an embedded wave will move through on Wednesday and we will see snow showers fire up again, particularly north of SLC. However this storm will be small and only a few inches are expected.

Extended Forecast

The next storm of note will approach on Friday with the main impact being Saturday. All models have this being at least a decent snow producer for the mountains of Northern Utah. Some models also bring snow farther south. Some models show significant snowfall. We are still 6 days away, so details aren't clear, but we should be looking at additional accumulation next weekend.

The good news in all of this is that we will also see cold temperatures throughout the next 10 days, so snowmaking can continue to supplement the natural snow.

More details tomorrow on the upcoming storms! Enjoy the snow and welcome to "true winter"!
