Sunday snowday at Winter Park

Summary

On Saturday night, we saw 6 inches of snow, and we’ll see additional accumulations this week.

Short Term Forecast

Saturday was sunny and warm with gusty winds.

On Saturday night, the storm arrived as we expected and 6 inches accumulated at mid-mountain. This was more snow than I expected and we can’t complain about that! The new snow will make for soft and fun turns on Sunday morning.

On Sunday morning, a nearby cold front could be the focus for snow showers and a few additional inches of accumulation if we’re lucky.

From Sunday afternoon through Monday morning, the next part of the storm will bring winds from the east which will bring the most snow to areas east of the divide and less certain snow totals at Winter Park. We should be able to grab at least a few inches though I have low confidence if we’ll see higher amounts. Keep your eye on the snow stake cam to see if Monday morning will once again offer soft turns.

On Tuesday we will see some snow showers. Then on Tuesday afternoon and Tuesday night, another storm with winds from the east will bring a chance for a few inches of snow. Once again I have low confidence if we’ll see higher amounts and keep your eye on the snow stake cam to see if we can sneak out softer turns on Wednesday morning.

Extended Forecast

The next storm should bring snow from later Thursday through Saturday, March 27th. Once again this storm will take a more southerly track and so our snow totals should be low-to-moderate with possible low-end powder on Friday or Saturday.

After that, Sunday and Monday, March 28-29 will be dry. On Tuesday, March 30, a storm tracking to our north could bring snow. Then from Wednesday, March 31 to Sunday, April 4, most longer-range models show a ridge of high pressure over the western US which would bring us warm and sunny weather.
