New snow Wednesday morning and (a lot) more to come

Summary

We have 2 inches of new snow on Wednesday morning, and the strengthening storm will bring a lot of snow on Wednesday night and Thursday with 1-2 feet of accumulation.

Update

Tuesday

Most of Tuesday was dry, then on Tuesday night, the first part of the storm delivered 2 inches of snow at mid-mountain.

Wednesday

On Wednesday, the storm will be getting organized and we could see anything from dry weather to a few inches of snow through early afternoon. Wednesday's high temperature will be in the 20s.

Then on Wednesday afternoon and Wednesday night, the storm will get its act together and should produce intense snow.

Thursday

Thursday morning will offer powder as we should see 8-12+ inches of snow from Wednesday night through Thursday morning. The storm will bring a wind from the east, and while this does not always produce a lot of snow at Winter Park, in this case, the wind from the east will extend from the ground all the way to 30,000 feet, so most of the lower atmosphere will be pushing against the mountains and will be forced to rise, and this should create substantial snow at Winter Park.

On Thursday during the day, intense snow should continue with another 6-12+ inches of new snow on top of the 8-12+ inches that should have fallen on Wednesday night. If all of this snow comes to fruition, there could be operational delays/closures due to new snow and gusty winds, and Berthoud Pass may close at some point.

Friday to Wednesday

If any terrain does not open during the storm on Thursday, the snow will be deep and untouched if it does open on Friday.

From Friday, March 15 to Wednesday, March 20, I expect dry weather and mostly sunny skies, though the current storm will linger to the southwest of Colorado and could push clouds and a snow shower up to the northern mountains.  Daily high temperatures will be in the 30s.

Longer Range

All of the longer-range forecasts point toward snow returning, starting around Thursday, March 21, and continuing through the end of March. It's too soon to figure out the details of the upcoming snowfall, but at least it's good to see that the data is pointing toward more snow before the end of the month.

My next update will be Thursday morning.
