Sunday

The recent storm is over and the snow total was 9 inches. This was on the lower end of the forecast range going into the storm.

Of this 9 inches of total snow, about 2 inches fell on Saturday with another 1 inch accumulated on Saturday night.

On Sunday, the morning temperature will be in the single digits and then will rise into the teens to low 20s during the day, and the snow should be soft/fun in places. Enjoy!

Sunday's weather should be dry for a lot of the day, but the next storm could bring snowflakes starting during the afternoon and evening.

Storm #1: Sunday night to Wednesday morning

This storm should bring snow from Sunday night through Wednesday morning and snow totals could be significant.

This storm has significant upside potential because it will last for about 60 hours, moisture will be adequate to good during the entire event, and the jet stream and storm energy (vorticity) will constantly be over or near the mountain. The combination of all three factors can lead to higher-than-expected snow totals.

Also, little wiggles in the track of the jet stream and the storm energy can shift bands of intense snow just a few miles north or south, and this leads to high uncertainty in the details of the forecast.

My best estimate is that there will be times of intense snow on Sunday night, Monday, and Monday night, with the chance for continued accumulations on Tuesday and Tuesday night, with storm total snowfall in the 10-20 inch range with powder conditions on Monday, Tuesday, and also on Wednesday morning.

While I have pretty high confidence that there will be significant snow through Wednesday morning, I cannot provide more details about the timing of the most intense snow since the forecast hinges on little wiggles in the track of the jet stream and storm energy, and these wiggles cannot be accurately forecast.

Watch the snow stake cams, hope for the best, and enjoy!

Storm #2: Thursday and Friday

The second storm of the week will bring snow from Wednesday night through Friday morning. I have low confidence in the details of this system, and my best estimate is another 3-8 inches of snow with some powder on Thursday and also on Friday.

Longer Range

There should be dry and warmer weather from about Saturday, February 22 to about Friday, February 28. After that, snow may return during the first few days of March.
