January 2025 Snowpack Update

The snowpack across the Western US sure is good in spots and okay in others.

Washington and Oregon in the Pacific Northwest are outperforming regions further inland thanks to a train of storms through early January. The Northern and Central Rockies are sitting right around normal, while the Southern Rockies have struggled to pick up significant snowfall since early November.

The map below shows the percentage of snowpack compared to the 1991-2020 median snowpack for January 13, 2025.

Blue is well above normal, green and yellow are near to below normal, and red is well below normal. This map is based on the weight of the snow on the ground, measured by automated backcountry weather stations called SNOTEL.
