LATEST: Late November Storm Coats Colorado
It was a great Thanksgiving weekend for the mountains across Colorado. To show you exactly what we're talking about, we gathered a few of our favorite photos from various locations across the state. With the current statewide snowpack sitting at a comfortable level of 102% of normal and more snow in the forecast for late next week, it's a great time to be skiing in Colorado.
Aspen Winternational
Mikaela Shiffrin dominated the Audi FIS Ski World Cup Aspen Winternational at Aspen Mountain. The reigning Olympic and World Cup slalom champion first won Saturday's slalom event by 3.07 seconds, the largest margin in women’s World Cup slalom history. She then followed that up on Sunday, where she won by the wide margin of 2.65 seconds.
Wolf Creek
Wolf Creek surpassed 100 inches year-to-date and came in with a strong storm total of 34 inches. The latest snowpack analysis has Wolf Creek at 120% of average. Will we see another 500+ inch year for southern Colorado?
Opening Day at Telluride
Telluride Ski Resort kicked off their 2015-2016 season on Thanksgiving Day. This will be another spot to watch this year as an El Nino favored southern storm track takes aim at southern Colorado and the southwest.
The Storm Finally Exits
After a fun Thanksgiving weekend, the storm finally moved over Colorado on Monday to give us one last powder day. The Colorado OpenSnow crew (Joel and myself) were up at Vail and it did not disappoint. Vail came in with an 8 inch snow report on Monday morning, with 7 inches falling overnight. The mountain was close to empty and the runs were full of cold smoke. We decided to stay one final night to see what Tuesday morning had to offer.
Sunny skies and fresh powder. Can it get much better?
