March 2024 Snowpack Update
The second half of the 23-24 winter season continues its incredible run with nearly every watershed across the central and southern Western United States now sitting above the 30-year normal. Thanks to more storms in the forecast, it's almost certain that most of the West will finish the season with an above-normal snowpack.
The map below shows the percentage of snowpack compared to the 1991-2020 median snowpack for March 15, 2024. Red is well below average, yellow and green are below to near average, and blue/purple is well above average.
This map is based on the weight of the snow on the ground, measured by automated backcountry weather stations called SNOTEL.
