Morning Inversions / Possible Snow Later Next Week
Summary
Yesterday the Lone Mountain Snotel at 8800’ registered 44 degrees at 1PM – just a tad warm for early December! Look for possibly even warmer temps Saturday as the high-pressure axis moves overhead heating up the alpine areas into the mid-40’s. Next weather system moves in a little later next week, Weds PM/Thurs AM likely.
Update
Today:
Inversion Time: At 7:30AM it’s 15 degrees in the Village and a comfy 31 degrees at the top of Andesite Mountain (8800’). Skies are currently clear over both Andesite Mountain and Lone Mountain.
For Saturday, sunny skies with light South/SE winds along with warm alpine temps rising into the middle 40’s in areas such as the Bowl and upper Andesite by 1PM. Morning air inversions will keep base areas/lower mountain cold in comparison until the inversion breaks late morning. Base area and lower slopes afternoon highs will rise quickly into the 40’s, but still be about 5-10 degrees cooler than the upper mountain. At least the sun angle for this time of year will not melt too much. Either way, sunscreen recommended.
Extended Forecast:
Sunday, Monday, Tuesday and sadly Wednesday too promise to continue our annoying (to most) streak of sunny, dry and warm days. Daytime high temps at 8500’ will be slightly cooler but still above freezing in the mid to upper 30’s. The much anticipated pattern change is still on for Thursday but it’s not looking as strong as hoped. Things change in 5 days, so keep it tuned right here.
Powder Out –
