Lots of Sunday

Summary

Another bluebird day but slightly cooler than Saturday in the alpine areas. Next weather system moves in on Wednesday evening with optimistically some measurable white stuff falling from the skies.

Update

Today:

At 7:30AM it’s 20 degrees in the Village and 30 degrees at the top of Andesite Mountain (8800’). Skies are currently clear over both Andesite Mountain and Lone Mountain.

For Sunday sunny skies with light South/SW winds (10mph) along with above average temps at 8500’ rising into the upper 30’s. With the high-pressure system slowly flattening today’s temps, up high at least will be a tad cooler than yesterdays. Still, morning air inversions will keep base areas/lower mountain 10 degrees or more colder in comparison to the upper mountain. These inversions have been breaking over the last few days around 11AM allowing the bases and lower slopes to warm quickly into the upper 30’s. Enjoy another bluebird day out there!

 Monday and the Extended Forecast:

After another sunny day on Monday clouds will mix with the sun on Tuesday and Wednesday. A few flurries may fall Wednesday afternoon in advance of a weak cold front. Daytime high temps (at 8500’) will be in a cooling trend starting Monday with highs generally in the low to mid 30’s. The weather pattern change to a slightly snowier one is still on for Wednesday night into Thursday but at this time it’s not likely we’ll receive more than a few inches. The good thing is that the high-pressure will be out of the way allowing storms to again advance into the region. Long range forecast models have the jet stream right over Montana the week of Dec 13-17 which could really open the storm door. Snow dances are needed.
