Another Sunny Monday

Summary

Our first chance for measurable snow looks to arrive Weds PM/Thurs AM on a rather fast-moving westerly flow. This westerly flow is likely to bring in a few more small storms Friday through Sunday as well.

Update

Today:

At 7:30AM it’s 14 degrees in the Village and 30 degrees at the top of Andesite Mountain (8800’). Morning inversions continue to be strong. Skies are currently clear over both Andesite Mountain and Lone Mountain.

Monday’s forecast is quite similar to yesterday’s (and the day before…)  with sunny skies and light West/SW winds (10-15mph) along with seasonally warm temps at 8500’ rising into the upper 30’s by 1pm.Reminder that morning air inversions will be present again with base areas/lower mountain temps colder in comparison to the upper mountain. These inversions have been breaking up over the last few days around 11AM allowing the bases and lower slopes to warm quickly into the upper 30’s by 1pm.

 Tuesday and the Extended Forecast:

Clouds start filtering in on Tuesday along with slightly stronger SW winds up to 25mph on ridge tops. Daytime high temps (at 8500’) will be warm Tuesday in the lower 40’s. The weather pattern change starts on Wednesday as increasing clouds through the day will lead to afternoon flurries. Winds switch over to westerly Wednesday night bringing snow showers with 1-3” likely by Thursday morning. Look for the showers to continue Thursday morning with another inch possible before the fast moving storm exits the region. Another system looks possible for Friday but details are not super clear right now on that. Long term forecast models continue to show the jet stream right over Montana the week of Dec 13-17 which could really open the storm door. Stay tuned!
