Weak Storm Tracking North

Summary

The tracking of a surface low pressure system that was on to advance into SW Montana has now changed to a more northerly one and thus looks to ride just north of our region. This is not what I wanted to see in this morning’s weather model runs. The westerly flow is still on for the weather pattern change with light snow possible Friday through early next week.

Update

Today:

At 7AM Tuesday it’s 22 degrees in the Village and 34 degrees at the top of Andesite Mountain (8800’). Morning inversions continue. Skies are currently clear over both Andesite Mountain and Lone Mountain.

Another day of sunny skies along with seasonally warm temps (8500’) awaits today. West/SW winds will be blowing at 15mph with gusts up to 25mph today. High temperatures in the upper mountain/alpine areas will be 36-38 degrees. Base lodge area and the lower mountain trails will stay about 10 degrees cooler than the upper mountain through the morning hours due to inversions.

Wednesday and the Extended Forecast:

Wednesday now looks to be a mix of sunny skies with increasing afternoon clouds along with moderate SW winds up to 25mph on ridge tops. Daytime high temps (at 8500’) will be about 10 degrees cooler than Tuesday’s into the upper 20’s.

Wish I had better news. The weather pattern change starts Wednesday night but accumulating snow is now not looking too likely unfortunately. The surface low-pressure system that was to catalyze the system over SW Montana is now expected to track north into southern Alberta pushing the weak storm out of our area effecting the mountains of northern and central MT. Wednesday night may still see a few snow showers at Big Sky with a skiff to an inch remotely possible. A mix of clouds and sun will be on tap for Thursday with seasonal temps. Clouds return Friday evening with chances for snow showers daily through the weekend and into early next week. Check back tomorrow morning for the latest. Thanks for reading. Daily snow dances and Ullr sacrifices are severely needed!
