The Wait

Summary

One more day of sunny and warm before a cold front brings us back to normal December temperatures. A few snow flurries will accompany the cold front with just a dusting possible. Snow showers return Friday afternoon and night.

Update

Today:

Current Observations: At 7AM Wednesday it’s 22 degrees in the Village and 33 degrees at the top of Andesite Mountain (at 8800’). Morning inversions continue one more day - promise. Skies are mostly clear over both Andesite Mountain and Lone Mountain with a few high clouds to the north.

Sunny skies this morning along with incredibly warm December temps (43 degrees at 8500’ by 1PM) will make way for increasing clouds and gusty West winds in the afternoon. This morning West/SW winds will be blowing, switching over to Westerly in the afternoon at 15mph with gusts up to 30mph. A few snow showers may pop up during the evening hours with no accumulation expected.

Thursday and the Extended Forecast:

Thursday will be colder. Daytime high temps will be about 20 degrees cooler than Wednesday’s – high temps at 8500’ will be in the 18-20 degree range. Skies will be a mix of clouds with numerous sunny breaks and light NE winds.

The weather pattern change has started as high-pressure is now being eschewed and a westerly flow is developing over the Treasure State. Our next system, a very weak wave of moisture expected Friday afternoon and night, looks once again to not have enough energy to amount to much more than a few snow showers. A better chance for snow looms on Monday when a stronger cold front is projected to enter SW Montana. The wait continues. Make the best of it (sunny skies and groomers aren’t too shabby)!

Powder Out –
