Southwest Flow to Deliver Some Snow

Summary

Some sun to start the day but by Friday afternoon an active SW flow steers in clouds, snow and rain showers, and even a few rumbles of thunder. Snow will begin Friday night, falling in fits and starts in varying intensities into Saturday night with a storm totals of 6 to 8 inches possible. Weak high-pressure rebuilds Sunday.

Update

Today:

At 8:00AM it’s 26 degree in the Village and 27 degrees at the 8800’ level of Andesite Mountain. No new snow fell in the past 24-hours. Currently the skies are mostly clear over Lone and Andesite mountains. Current winds at the top of Andesite are blowing from the East/NE at 7 mph with a recent gust to 13 mph.

Today expect increasing clouds through the morning hours with snow and rain showers developing in the early afternoon (snow level approximately 8000’). A few rumbles of thunder could be possible, so be aware when  venturing into the alpine terrain under darkening (clouds) skies. Winds will be on the increase through the day, blowing out of the South/SW at 15 to 20 mph with ridgetop gusts to 35 mph. High temperatures across the upper mountain locations (at 9000’) will be around 34 degrees by 11am dropping to around 30 degrees by 3pm.

Extended Forecast:

Snow returns to the forecast in earnest Friday night with 1 to 4 inches likely overnight with a snow level of around 7000’. Snow continues into Saturday with another 3 to 6 inches possible with snow levels dropping to the Gallatin River. Afternoon instability will again bring chances of a few rumbles of thunder. Temperatures Saturday will revert back to seasonal averages, with upper mountain highs in the mid to upper 20’s. Another wave of moistures rolls through Saturday night bringing chances of another 2 to 4 inches overnight. After a partly sunny day on Sunday, clouds return Monday in advance of a weak Pacific storm system bringing chances of another few inches Monday night into Tuesday.
