Saturday Surprise
Summary
4 inches overnight came fully unexpected to the forecast models, but we’ll take the surprise with a smile. High-pressure slowly builds in Saturday bringing a partly sunny afternoon. Our next storm begins late Sunday night and continues through Monday. This will be a windy storm system with gusts to 60 mph possible up top, but 4 to 8 inches also look possible.
Update
Today:
At 7:00AM it’s 25 degrees in the Village and 18 degrees at the 8800’ level of Andesite Mountain. 4 inches of new snow fell in the past 24-hours, all of that falling overnight. Currently the skies are cloudy with light snow falling over Lone and Andesite mountains. Current winds at the top of Andesite are blowing from the West at 14 mph with a recent gust to 26 mph.
Today expect cloudy skies with snow showers during the morning slowly clearing to a mix of sun and clouds around noon until last chair. Winds will be blowing out of the West at 10 to 15 mph with gusts to 30 mph on the ridgetops. High temperatures across the upper mountain locations (at 9000’) will be around 35 degrees by 2pm.
Extended Forecast:
Mostly sunny skies and above average temperatures are in store for Sunday. Sunday will be very windy with upper mountain sustained SW winds 20 to 30 mph with gusts to 45 mph. This in advance of an extremely windy Pacific storm system expected to impact Big Sky Sunday night into Monday bringing chances of 4 to 8 inches through Monday night. This storm looks like a bowling ball on the weather maps with extreme SW winds expected to be gusting up to 60 mph on the ridgetops. Also, much colder air will bring highs at 9000’ on Tuesday to around 18 degrees. High-pressure builds in on Wednesday and temps rebound quickly back to seasonal springlike averages (30 degree high at 9K’). Thursday and Friday, sunny skies and slightly warmer daytime temperatures. Friday’s highs at 9K’ will be in the low 40’s.
