Summary
Extreme winds will be the main concern over the next 24-hours as a burly cold front works its way through the region. Moderate winds with gusts to 35 mph will develop late morning, slowly increasing to 50 mph gusts by 4pm. Snow showers begin Sunday night and continue through Monday, but accumulations now look to be lower at 2 to 4 inches possible. Batten down the hatches.

Today:
At 7:00AM it’s 30 degrees in the Village and 29 degrees at the 8800’ level of Andesite Mountain. 1 inch of new snow fell in the past 24-hours. Currently the skies are partly sunny over Lone and Andesite mountains. Current winds at the top of Andesite are blowing from the SW at 5 mph with a recent gust to 14 mph.
Today expect partly sunny skies during the morning slowly clearing to mostly sunny by noon. SW winds will be ramping up into the afternoon where sustained winds of 30 to 35 mph with gusts to 50 mph will make things interesting in the alpine zones. High temperatures will be tropical with highs across the upper mountain locations (at 9000’) will be around 45 degrees by 2pm.
Extended Forecast:
A fast moving storm system will bring a few hours of snowfall Sunday night with around 1 to 3 inches by Monday morning. Extreme SW winds expected to intensify Sunday night across Big Sky with upper mountains gusts to 60 mph. Instability after the cold front passes could bring a slight chance of another 1 to 3 inches Monday during the day. Also, much colder air will bring highs at 9000’ on Monday to around 10 degrees. Yep – that’s a 36 degree swing in 24-hours!! High-pressure builds in on Wednesday and temps rebound quickly back to seasonal springlike averages (30 degree high at 9K’). Thursday and Friday, sunny skies and warm daytime temperatures – floral prints and Pit Vipers will be back. Friday’s highs at 9K’ will be in the low 40’s. Batten down the lawn furniture.
